Basically there is no hard limit, you can attach as many attachments as you want of virtually any size. However, there is two things that need to take in to account:
1. Size of attachments has impact on performance - when you open a note with attachments/images inside, all of these are loaded in to the memory. Only attachments from currently open note are loaded, while all other notes/documents are reaming on the disk. Therefore, if you have 100Mb of attachments in single note, on opening that note you will experience certain delay, possibly 2-5 seconds, cause need to loaded them from the disk.
2. Also, counting that attachments are loaded in to the memory on opening document, If you have, say, 1Gb of RAM, you will be unable to attach more then 1Gb of attachments to single note, cause Windows will not be able to allocate so much memory.

Thank you for bringing it to our attention. I've just tried to insert 100 files 10Mb in overall size using version 2.39 - it works. However, I did noticed that it allocated more memory then it should, and it was quite slow (should be instant), likely it's a reason of the problem. I'll investigate and follow-up here shortly.
