Why Does the Down Key Now Create A New Line?

Could someone please explain why this is desirable?

If you're using keyboard navigation and hold the down key to scroll to the bottom of large volumes of text, you're likely going to be going past the bottom and generating multiple new lines before you're able to remove your finger from the down key. This arguably creates more work and is redundant functionality.

I would imagine there's a reason this was added?

We have keyboard shortcut Ctrl+End to reach end of text instantly.
