App always freeze during the backup

Hi!

First of all, thank you for this amazing program. I bought the deluxe edition and I'm very happy with it.
However, I have a issue with the backup process.

I'm using AllMyNotes a very long time and my "MyNotes.ddb" reached over 4.5GB.
Everytime the program starts to perform a backup, the whole app is freezed and I can't use it till the backup is complete. This takes more than 3-4 minutes on my PC.

Is this a normal behavior? How can I avoid this?

I also don't understand why the whole database file is not growing in size. For example, after adding a big image (10 MB) and saving the ddb file has still the same size as before.

Is underlying filsesystem reserving some additional space and grows only in bulk?

You are right, this is not good to do backup on startup. We've fixed it, AllMyNotes will do backup only when not active (no keyboard and mouse activity for some time) and not within first 5 minutes after program launch time. The fix will be available in all versions 3.41 and 4.07 (beta).

In the future we'll make backup process totally transparent (it will not freeze the program), but it will take some time to implement.

Why is it so big? Perahps you have huge file attachments inside? You can place them on your disk and put file hyperlinks to them rather then inserting within a note. This will speed up not opening time and backuping time as well.

You are right, the database engine is t pre-allocatin space in advance, this allows faster allocation and decreases overall file fragmentation.

I have updated the app to the latest version (3.41) and will observe the new backup behaviour.

In my case, I'm saving lot's of images in the notes. If I would use your approach with the hyperlinks, I would't see the images directly and had always to click on the link to see the image.
