AMNO shows "New version available" but it isn't

Post by Marcel »

From time to time my AMNO 3.11 (build 973) shows me a banner in the top of the tree-panel that a new version is avaiable. But there is no new version available. I use AMNO portable on an usb-stick.

Please note that version 3.11 is beta, therefore, go to Tools -> Options -> Internet and there make sure that you have checkbox next to "Include Beta versions when looking for updates". I presume you've this option disabled and as result you are checking for version 2.xx updates, not 3.xx.

"Automatic search for updates" is completely disabled in my AMNO. So it is strange that AMNO sometimes shows me the banner.

It looks like some sort of error, the banner is shown very rarely when the update cannot be performed for very long time, I can only presume that in your case it may be that the app was launched for first time when system time was set in to the future... Let's do this - we'll revise the banner code and make sure that it will not show up in this case, so in future versions it will not happen.

OK,

Hmm, I never have had a wrong date or time on my systems.

I use AMNO portable only on an usb stick.
In our company we have a proxy that blocks many traffic. At home I have full internet access. Maybe that the change between proxy/full access triggers this banner some times. But it is really rare so it is not a real problem but only an information to you that this sometimes happens.

You are right, the notification appears only when there is no Internet access and the app is sure that it was released very long time ago. We just have to check why it happened faster for you.

Ah, this is a good hint.

I use 2 totally independent portable AMNO versions in 2 separate folders. I want to completely separate private and business notes, not only two databases but 2 instances of AMNO, so I can make separate backups (business-folder at work, private-folder at home) and both backups contain the whole working program. Sometimes I don't use one of it a long time (3 to 6 weeks could be possible). It is possible that after starting the version that I have not used a long time the banner is shown.

The best way to avoid this would be: AMNO should only show the hint when it really reaches the server and sees that a new version is available.

I have AMN in my startup folder and I am getting this message. I would guess AMN is starting before internet is available.
