Adding multiple attachments to a note
Adding multiple attachments to a note
I'm new to this forum and new to AllMyNotes Organizer. My apologies if I've missed something in the documentation. One of the features I really love about this application is the ability to add attachments (files) into a note. Question - Is there an upward limit to the file size/number of attachments I can add to a note ?? The application appears to handle 4 or 5 files without issue. However, when I tried to add approximately 30 files totalling approximately 2 MB worth of data, the application just shuts itself down. When I re-open the application, the note I created is still there but all the attachments I tried to add are not ...
Re: Adding multiple attachments to a note
Basically there is no hard limit, you can attach as many attachments as you want of virtually any size. However, there is two things that need to take in to account:
1. Size of attachments has impact on performance - when you open a note with attachments/images inside, all of these are loaded in to the memory. Only attachments from currently open note are loaded, while all other notes/documents are reaming on the disk. Therefore, if you have 100Mb of attachments in single note, on opening that note you will experience certain delay, possibly 2-5 seconds, cause need to loaded them from the disk.
2. Also, counting that attachments are loaded in to the memory on opening document, If you have, say, 1Gb of RAM, you will be unable to attach more then 1Gb of attachments to single note, cause Windows will not be able to allocate so much memory.

Thank you for bringing it to our attention. I've just tried to insert 100 files 10Mb in overall size using version 2.39 - it works. However, I did noticed that it allocated more memory then it should, and it was quite slow (should be instant), likely it's a reason of the problem. I'll investigate and follow-up here shortly.LT1 wrote:However, when I tried to add approximately 30 files totalling approximately 2 MB worth of data, the application just shuts itself down. Re: Adding multiple attachments to a note
Thanks for the info. Now that I know about the RAM allocation, I will organize my notes accordingly. Thanks for the insight.
Re: Adding multiple attachments to a note
Ok, we are done with optimizations:
Let me know if you'll observe something else.
- 1. Adding multiple attachments per single step is much, much faster now, almost instant (the only limit is disk speed).
2. Optimized memory allocation - much less RAM is allocated now.
Let me know if you'll observe something else.

Re: Adding multiple attachments to a note
I've just installed the new version and have tried adding additional attachments. I've noticed a great improvement in the speed !! No unusual or unexpected behaviour as of yet. Thank you for your quick response !!
