This AllMyNotes Organizer glossary explains the words used in the program and throughout this online manual. Start here if a command, screen area, or feature name is unfamiliar; each term links to the practical guide where you can learn more.

Notes, Folders, and the main window

• Note - A document stored inside the database. A Note can hold plain or formatted text, tables, checkboxes, images, links, reminders, and attached files.

• Folder - A container that groups related Notes and subfolders. Think of it like a File Explorer folder, except it is stored inside the AllMyNotes database.

• Item - The general name for either a Note or a Folder. Commands such as Copy, Move, Delete, Export, Color, and Priority can apply to an item.

• Navigation tree (Outliner) - The left side of the main window, where all Notes and Folders appear as a hierarchy. Outliner is the older name still used in some documentation and interface translations.

• Editor and preview pane (Workspace) - The right side of the main window. It opens the Note editor for a Note and shows the selected Folder's contents when you select a Folder.

• Caption - The visible name beside a Note or Folder icon. A literal caption begins with a quotation mark and is taken automatically from the first line of a Note.

Files, privacy, and recovery

• Database or .ddb file - The local file that stores the complete Folder structure, Notes, formatting, images, attachments, indexes, and related settings.

• Encryption and database password - Encryption keeps stored database content unreadable outside AllMyNotes. A database password controls access to the whole .ddb file; a Folder password restricts one Folder after the database is open.

• Backup - A separate timestamped database copy that you can open if the working copy is lost, damaged, or changed accidentally. A backup is not the same as synchronization.

• Auto-Save - The setting that saves recent work automatically. It complements regular backups; it does not create an independent recovery copy by itself.

• Attachment - A file embedded in a Note and stored within the encrypted .ddb database, rather than merely a link to a file elsewhere on the PC.

• Hyperlink - Clickable text that opens a web page, email address, phone number, local file, or another AllMyNotes item.

Find, import, export, and synchronize

• Global Search - The search window that finds text across the database and can filter results by date, size, or Folder path. Search filtering temporarily shows only matching Notes and Folders in the navigation tree.

• Tag - A searchable label typed directly into a Note, preferably in an unmistakable form such as client-smith or receipt. Search for the complete bracketed label to group related Notes across different Folders. These tags are ordinary visible text, so they remain portable in exports.

• Import - Bringing information from another file or application into the selected Folder as Notes, Folders, or attachments.

• Export - Creating a copy of selected Notes, a Folder branch, or a full database for sharing, publishing, archiving, or transferring to another application.

• Synchronization - A process, started manually or automatically on a schedule, that exchanges changes between separate AllMyNotes databases. Unlike a backup, synchronization keeps more than one working database aligned.

License and support terms

• Lite edition - The free edition of AllMyNotes Organizer. It can open and edit compatible databases, while some advanced commands are reserved for Deluxe.

• Deluxe edition and activation code - The paid edition and the code that activates its licensed features. Enter the registered name, email address, and code exactly as supplied.

• Online Dashboard - The secure customer page where you can view licenses, activation codes, registered details, support options, and account settings.
