Comparing Files Without Losing Data

Hello,

I have a few files that I have saved in different locations and need to consolidate them into one file without losing any data, not even a sentence, which would be impossible to determine by file size. How can I compare and/or see the differences between 2 files to make sure all that is written in one is included in the final file I will keep? Comparing the size of each folder is not an acceptable solution, I know you can see the size of a file but the size itself doesn't always change when a minor amount of data is added and it is imperative that I get everything within 1 file without destroying any data. Please let me know as soon as this is available because I have over 550 notes and 213 folders per file and looking at them side by side, which is what I have been doing for the most part, is not going to cut it. I'm hoping you guys might have a more time efficient way.

I love the software so Please Help!!!

Thanks in advance for your help,

Sincere regards,

Re: Comparing Files Without Losing Data

What comes on my mind is this - export files to .html or .txt format, and compare them using text comparison tool. This will give you an exact list of modified text lines and even characters. After comparison you'll be able to copy modified Notes to the final file.

To export .ddb file content follow steps below:

  • 1. Select root folder

    2. Use File -> Export menu item, select txt file format

Comparison tools you may use:
  • 1. WinDiff.exe - this utility is free and included in every Windows installation (I think so)

    2. Araxis Merge, free to try for 30 days, it's really good when it comes to file comparison - http://www.araxis.com/merge/

By the way, to copy-paste Notes it might be useful for you to have open simultaneously all .ddb files, you can do it by launching .ddb files from Windows Explorer.

P.S. We are currently working on seamless data synchronization done by many users, it's our priority #1, hope we'll have it ready soon.
