Re: AllMyNotes Security // If someone stole my PC or USB drive...
AllMyNotes exists since 2009, and during this period we are unaware about existence of any tool which can break in to password-portected .ddb files created by AllMyNotes Organizer. So, basically, all depends on complexity of your password. The longer it is, the harder it it to guess it. Password-protecttion of sub-folder adds extra layer of security, but, technically it's not as strong as encryption assigned to .ddb file, so I'd recommend to use stronger password for .ddb file itself. But once again, this is only theory, we are unaware about case of unauthorized file access without knowing password. We are not aware even about existence of tools for brute-force enumeration of passwords of .ddb files of folders within data files. And without these tools, how to oped password-protected file? Enter passwords manually? Oh, it will take ages. I wouldn't worry about it.

IMHO this is too much. Rarely people need so complex scheme to access their data. And, if the need appears rarely I'd recommend to use third-party tools to add additional lawyer of security. For example, encrypted disk volume, it will do pretty much what you need - it will ask for a password only once a day, or, once after computer restart, and, it will be an additional encryption method, which is also a good thing to have.

AllMyNotes Security // If someone stole my PC or USB drive...
If someone stole my PC or USB drive, how immune to reverse engineering is my data ddb file?

I like to password the whole AMN file with a short 4 char pin for quick access

and then some sub folders with a stronger pswd

In the above context, is it worth having the option to create a third type of STRONGER password that auto flags the first time a ddb file is opened on a computer restart (or unidentified new Hardware in the case of accessing a USB stored ddb) or at least first open a day or perhaps a specified interval per day ?

example 2 hours etc

Maybe relevant for people who travel alot or who may be located in frequent crime areas

Maybe questions to edit and copy to FAQ

Thanks
