@kelvien, thank you for catching the bug and raising the issue. I hope it gets fixed.

Renaming a folder? Honestly, I don't imagine how it can be accidental

This is not a matter of interpretation, or AllMyNotes second-guessing whether certain edits might be accidental or not, then silently deciding to skip the prompt on its own. Turning off the auto-save is already telling that the user wants to know, and control that step. Any change to (a) the contents of the file, even if only one single bit, and/or (b) the file metadata, except the last-access timestamp, warrants a "save changes?" prompt. That's how it works virtually everywhere else, and that would be the user expectation on AllMyNotes' behalf as well.

Auto-save and this Prompt for save option work only for note text editing.

Renaming a folder? Honestly, I don't imagine how it can be accidental, cause to do it you need to enter in caption editing mode (double-click on it, or F2 key), then explicitly modify the text, and that's... accidental? Uh... And... is there a guarantee that answering Yes on saving changes prompt is no accidental?

Hi Vla,

Disable auto-save don't work in create new note or new folder and rename note or folder.......How to disable auto-save to also work in create new note n folder n for rename? cause sometimes I accidentally mess my sub tree....

I wish disable auto-save can ask permission for any changes I have made...

Thanks..

Ok, done, try build #718 below and let me know if something works not as expected:

http://downloads.vladonai.com/Install_AllMyNotes_3_03_Beta_b718.exe

P.S. See Tools -> Options -> Backups page to configure it.

The feature is pretty simple, therefore we can do it under single condition - buy Deluxe edition, or, if you are already a purchased customer, just let me know.

Re: is it possible to disable auto-save?
Thanks Vlad. I understand you are meeting the needs of your customer base.

For me - I can't use it. The problem is that I don't know the data is gone until it is too late. See this scenario:

1. I have a note that I refer back to all the time. Documentation for something.

2. I look at that note, maybe highlighting some bit that I need right now and then get distracted doing whatever.

3. For whatever reason (maybe a dialog box on the other monitor, whatever) I end up hitting the space bar and losing data in my note.

4. I don't notice this.

5. A week later I go to look at my note again and my data is gone.

6. I have to go through backups to find out when this happened? So I'd sit there going through each backup file looking for the old version of my note. That sounds horrible. What if other notes changed? How would I know? How would I incrementally take "some things" from the old version and "some things" from the new? Sounds like a lot of copy/pasting. And looking around.

This is why the save button was invented - I can do whatever I want, and it doesn't matter until I hit save. It is very frustrating that lots of new software - like yours - does away with this essential thing.

Thanks anyway. If possible, please let me know if/when you add this option back and I can again consider your software. It does look very nice.

Let me suggest even better way to go around this problem - keep history of all changes for last N days. Save confirmation prompt is really annoying thing, we had this feature in the past, and due to numerous request we had to remove it. And it's too easy to answer Yes by mistake. Therefore I'm offering this more elegant solution - no annoying pop-ups, and at any time you'll be able to see your old data.

The feature I'm talking about is auto-backup feature, which can be configured to keep old backups for N days (note: backups do not overwrite each-other). Take a look at Tools -> Options -> Backup. There you'll be able to increase number of days to keep backups.

is it possible to disable auto-save?
Is there any way to disable the auto-save feature? Such that if I make changes to my notes, and I exit the software without saving, it would give the standard "do you want to save?" dialog instead of blindly SAVING IT FOR ME? I hate that feature - it is the biggest reason I'm searching for a replacement for OneNote and EverNote. I've lost valuable work in those programs too many times to bear. Simply due to inadvertent edits that I didn't notice (it's easy in a multi-monitor setup). When that happens, by the time you notice it is often too late.

I really need a new note taking app without that feature, and this one looks very nice, but seems to have this same awful feature. Please help if you can.

Travis
