How to clear autocomplete history, searches, etc.?
Tx for your help.

Thanks for raising this - it's a fair point, and you'll get a proper fix soon.

What's coming in 5.04 beta (to be released soon):

  • A Clear History command at the bottom of the history drop-down in Global Search and in the Find and Replace fields.
  • File > Recent Files > Clear Recent Files.
  • A command-line switch,
    -clear-sensible-settings
    , that clears all of the above in one go: search, Find and Replace histories plus the Recent Files list. All your other settings, your license and your notes stay exactly as they are.

Until then, here is how to clear it by hand in your current version. It takes about two minutes.

1. Exit AllMyNotes completely.
Use File > Exit, or right-click the AllMyNotes icon in the system tray (next to the clock) and choose Exit. Closing the window with the X button may only hide it to the tray, and then the program would write the old history back when it really exits. If in doubt, open Task Manager and make sure there is no AllMyNotes64.exe (or AllMyNotes.exe) left.

2. Open the folder with the settings file.
Installed version: paste this into the address bar of Windows Explorer and press Enter:

%USERPROFILE%\Documents\AllMyNotes

Portable version: the folder where AllMyNotes.exe is.

3. Find the settings file

AllMyNotes.cnfg

If you see several (AllMyNotes1.cnfg, AllMyNotes2.cnfg...), take the one with the most recent "Date modified": that's the one in use. Make a copy of it first, just in case.

4. Open it in Notepad (right-click > Open with > Notepad) and delete these lines:

  • Global Search:
    GlobalSrchText=...
    and
    GlobalSrchOld=...
  • Find and Replace:
    FindReplDlgFindLine=...
    ,
    FindReplDlgFindHistory=...
    ,
    FindReplDlgReplaceLine=...
    and
    FindReplDlgReplaceHistory=...
  • Recent Files list: all lines
    RecentlyOpenedFile0=...
    ,
    RecentlyOpenedFile1=...
    and so on

Do not touch

RecentFilePath=...
: that's the database AllMyNotes opens at start. Leave all other lines as they are. A missing line simply means "empty", so deleting is safe.

5. Save the file (Ctrl S; keep the encoding Notepad suggests) and close Notepad.

6. Start AllMyNotes as usual.
The search fields and the Recent Files list are now empty. When you're happy, you can delete the copy from step 3: it still contains the old history.

Your notes are not affected by any of this: they live in your database (.ddb) file, not in the settings file.
