Hi!

Whenever All my Notes starts it opens a certain file (probably the one used first upon installation). How do I change that file? (i.e. how do I tell AmN WHICH file to open when started?

AllMyNotes opens the last opened data file. As it doesn't works for you it means that AllMyNotes cannot save config file allmynotes.ini on exiting (you can find this file in the folder 'MyDocumetns/AllMyNotes'). Usually it happens due to file access permissions, for example, as result of system restore, or, bit incorrect system installation,either way it's easy to correct it. The simples way to fix it is simply delete this file. Another, more elegant sollution, is to allow file full reading-writing acess permissions to Everyone, also, make sure that the file is not read-only.
