Maybe the portable version shouldn't try to look up for registration info on the host PC to avoid such a case. Or did I get something wrong?

  • 1. Registration info is stored within AllMyNotes (not in the registry), so don't worry about it. I cannot provide more details, this is our commercial secret :ugeek:

    2. Even if app will switch to trial period (which is not supposed to happen) you can still can do following:
  • 2.1. Keep your activation info within AllMyNotes data, just for case.

2.2. You can always restore your license using our automated license restore service - http://www.vladonai.com/allmynotes_support_self_service_activation_restore.php

2.3. Even if from some reason you'll fail to do 2.1 and 2.2, and app will expire, then you still will be able to use the software - it will switch to "limited mode", in which you will be able to access your data, but text editing functions will be restricted to plain text editing.

Re: Portable AllMyNotes Organizer
Thanks for clarifying things, Vlad.

I was able to see the automatic path correction in the log file, that's great.

But one thing still bothers me:

"vlad" wrote:Imagine if you would need to enter your license on each new PC :)

We are trying to do not use registry, because it cannot survive system reinstallation. While AllMyNotes is handling such cases easily.

Thing is I hadn't activated the portable version, so it obviously used my "installed version" registration info to display my name and email address.

(I checked on another PC to be sure, and it wasn't activated.)

So what if I use the unregistered portable version on my "registered PC" for some months, and then take the USB stick with me on vacation and try to run the app on somebody else's PC ?

That's right, the only difference is this "Portable.sig" file. Its presence switching number of features. Particularly, in Portable mode same folder where app is installed is used for storing data file (default location). While for Installed version it's "My Documents".

Also point of portable version is to handle drive letter changes smartly, and store all settings on USB media (no registry, at least very limited use of registry).

"Lush" wrote:1) I copied the app folder to a USB stick and lauched it from there. When I checked the "registration info" it was filled with my registration info from the installed version. Shouldn't the portable version ask for its own registration info and store it in its own folder?

There should be no conflicts, you will be able to use two instances (yours, Portable, and someone's) simultaneously.

"Lush" wrote:3) I noticed the paths stored in the .ini file include the drive letter (eg RecentlyOpenedFile0=G:\AllMyNotes\AllMyNotes Documents.ddb) What will happen if the key is given another letter (H: or J:) on a different PC?

Portable version can handle drive letter change, you have nothing to worry about.

Portable AllMyNotes Organizer
Hi,

I downloaded the portable version of the application, mainly because I am curious and wanted to see what were the differences with the installable version. Apart from the "Portable.sig" not much, it seems.

But I have some questions:

1) I copied the app folder to a USB stick and lauched it from there. When I checked the "registration info" it was filled with my registration info from the installed version. Shouldn't the portable version ask for its own registration info and store it in its own folder?

2) What if I use the portable version on a PC where the app is already installed and registered to someone else? (for instance, if I want to use my own skin, localization, recent files list and .ddb files stored on the key.)

3) I noticed the paths stored in the .ini file include the drive letter (eg RecentlyOpenedFile0=G:\AllMyNotes\AllMyNotes Documents.ddb) What will happen if the key is given another letter (H: or J:) on a different PC?

I don't really need the portable version with my laptop, but as I said, I'm a bit curious ;)
